Where can I find a cafe that serves really good, high quality coffee in New York?

Wapsisquare has got me curious about was a "peaty roast" coffee tastes like.

  1. Damico's Coffee Roasters also operates a small cafe in their place. http://www.damicofoods.com

Also, The Coffee Pot on 9th Ave and 49th st. is an ok place.

  2. Try Cafe Lalo. It was featured in a scene in "You've Got Mail". Also, try the cafe Serendipity in the Upper East Side. It's close to Bloomingdales and the major shopping stores so you can take a break from shopping and get a quick drink. However, Serendipity is a bit expensive. If all else fails, there are a bunch of Dunk N' Donuts and Starbucks around. Personally, I like independent coffee houses. Conglomerates take all the fun out of living.

  4. And, it always works out because the coffee serves for after-dinner talk, the soda for even later and the water for bed.

  5. My favourite coffee shop serves unsweetened soya milk, how good is that, it's normally horribley sugarified. a pleasant suprise.

  6. My recommendation goes out to Grey Dog's down in the West Village. The staff is courteous, the environment is calming, and oh yes...the coffee is excellent. It's really a cool place to check out. If espresso is your cup of tea..um..coffee, then you can't go wrong with 9th street Espresso. Both places serve a superior cup than Starbucks IMHO.

  8. In Salem, The Governor's Cup serves up decent caffeinated beverages and appears to be the late night coffee shop here. Glad it's good.
