Barton owes $21,000 in unpaid rent
Barton's lawsuit by Landlord M.R.A. Realties Inc., alleges that Barton owes $21,000 in unpaid rent. The lawsuit, filed on Thursday in New York State Supreme Court in Manhattan, claims that British-born Barton rebuffed company’s efforts to collect the last three months' worth of rent on her flat.
It also claimed that the actress has ignored continued requests to pay rent for the last three months.
A representative for Barton says he has no immediate response to the suit.
Barton to pay legal fees
The lawsuit claimed that besides rent from Nov. 2009 to Jan. 2010, Barton owes an additional $100 for each missed month.
According to landlord's attorney, Joseph Burden, the apartment has been vacant since November. Barton’s one-year lease on the Manhattan apartment began in September.
In Sept. (09) Barton had planned to temporarily live in Manhattan while filming her now defunct show The Beautiful Life.
