Why are all the major cable TV news channels located in New York City, right in Manhattan?

I live in the midwest. Why can't there be cable TV news channels from the mid west, but not Chicago? Wouldn't that be a better way to communicate with people who are far from New York City?

    you needed to be where the action is. New York is one of the most populous, happening places.

    you were right. ten hour battery life on video. subscriptions to tv channels. special apps with new York times etc

    Before the telecommunications age, you needed to be where the action is. New York is one of the most populous, happening places.

    CNN is headquartered in Atlanta but every news network or channel has offices in major cities around the country and even more stationed reporters.

    Who wouldn't want to be located in the best city in the world? New York is the crown jewel of America. Why do you think the terrorists target New York for their attacks? \



    However, I am not sure that is the reason.
