Can anyone explain to me New York City parking rules?

I would like to leave my car in NYC (96th & Lexington or Near By) from Thursday night to Friday morning? Is there a certain side i need to park on? Is there a certain time i need to have my car off the street by? What if I wanted to leave my car from Thursday Night to Friday night? Side? Time I must be moved by?

  2. Do you have out-of-state plates? If so, it tell car thieves you might be gone for a good while so pick a garage.

A garage will also save you from a parking ticket.

  3. Parking rules are posted on signs. If the sign says alternate side of the street parking/street cleaning 11 - 2 mon wed fri or say 8- 11 tues & thurs, don't park there during that time. In midtown there many streets with muni meters that are for commercial vehicles only if you're not sure if your car is a commercial vehicle don't park there either.

Tickets cost about $115 you might want to just leave the car in a lot it's a lot cheaper and your car will not get towed and held for ransom.

    Good Luck

  6. The safest bet is to follow the signs and make sure you understand them. If you are wrong, you may get towed, which, besides being expensive is a big hassle.

  8. I live semi near there, and from my experience having my car in the neighborhood is really a pest. You might want to consider paying to park it for the few days at a lot, there are tons around that should give you deals on multiple days. If not, then first only park on streets, not avenues. Then never park within I think it's either 15 or 20 feet of a fire hydrant. Also, never block any yellow curbs, or come or block any crosswalks. Then you have to read the signs. NYC has alternate side parking b/c the street sweeper comes by in the morning on alternating sides every day. This means you will have to move your car almost daily and can be a real headache as finding a spot is difficult. What you can do if you still can't find any spots on the street is to just move your car during the time that the street sign says the street sweeper comes. Sometimes I used to have to double park my car for a few hours to let the street sweeper go and then just move my car back. This is not ideal though b/c you can technically get a ticket although they don't enforce it as long as you don't block anyone in. Just make sure you never get towed, it is the worst experience, and very expensive. Also parking tickets for not moving for the street sweeper are expensive so really read those signs. This is why my car is now in Jersey and I originally said you should just park in a lot. I live 5 blocks from 96 and lex and had my car in the city for about a year, got towed twice and countless tickets, some I didn't deserve and am still struggling to fight
