ReplyDeleteoh and skiing/snowboarding is like soooo much closer to new york than it is to perth! and there is fresh powder so close!!!
ReplyDeleteI am not sure about any websites which compares New York area skiing resorts but I know of an area near NYC which many native NY'ers go to for skiing/snowboarding. The area is called the Poconos which is actually a mountain range in Pennsylvania. It's not too far from NYC and the area is filled with several ski resorts. I think the Catskill mountains has ski resorts too but I'm not too sure about that. went to ski resort in the Poconos
ReplyDeleteLindsey Vonn, Bode Miller named to US Ski Team for Alpine skiing events at ... - New York Daily News

Today's best song: The Pogues-Fairytale of New York. Bittersweet Xmas hymn out XC skiing in a light drizzle. Had to stop for this one.
ReplyDeleteDo NOT go to Hunter. They have accidents that result in fatalities because it is overcrowded.
ReplyDeleteI go to Bromley, which is roughly 4 1/2 hours drive from NYC. It's near Manchester, Vermont. It is the top ski resort for *FAMILIES*--this means you will not have to worry about inconsiderate skiers/snowboarders cutting you off. Because it's a southern facing mountain, you have sunlight all day (when there aren't clouds, anyway).
It has day care for toddlers, and ski programs for little kids. The emphasis for kids learning to ski is to have fun. Don't press your kids to get on the chair lift if they are not ready. All it takes is one fall and they'll be traumatized beyond reason.
I just came back from there yesterday. Our kid is 8 and even though she fell during class, she had fun. Be sure to get helmets. I'm sure you like their heads the way they are. If your kid does not progress at the same rate as the rest of the class (as our kid did), do not worry. Some instructors stay behind and continue to coach. It's all about having fun.
If you yourself are looking to ski as a beginner, I do recommend the Beginner's Circle for adults. It's worth every penny. I went skiing at Bromley with no experience three years ago, took a class and had a blast.
And if I haven't completely sold you on Bromley Mountain . . . Manchester has outlet shopping! Been going back for three years now. I love it, and so does my kid.
here's a great link http://www.skiresortguide.com/usamap.cfm..click on new york state and all the ski resorts in the state come up...your best choices are either hunter mountain ir driving to southern vermont
ReplyDeleteThe ski areas closest to NYC are not necessarily in NY state.
ReplyDeleteWould search NY, NJ , CT, PA, VT for state run facilitie & ski resorts.
Each state has areas within the 4 hr range.
Best regards
Hunter mountain in NY. And check out anything in the Poconos. Try googling New York Skiing and Poconos Skiing.
