What is the best Indian Restaurant in New York City?

I LOVE Indian food but I'm a little unsure about different places in New York city, and which place has the best food. Good tandoori, good curry, and good bread. Any suggestions?

  4. I'd say visit Curry Row and try some different ones. If you're not familiar, it's an entire block of Indian restaurants on 6th St. between 1st and 2nd Ave. When I lived on 7th, I would hit a new one every month until I covered the whole block. Some good stuff there.

  8. Personally I like Curry Leaf Lexington and 27th -- This is in the "Curry Hill" section Lexington Beteween 29th -- 25th which I find has better restaurants than "Curry Row". I have never been to an "upscale Indian" it seems like a contradiction in terms to me.

  13. try Chola on East 58th btwn lex and 3rd. That is a street with at least 4 higher end indian restaurants, all worth trying. but Chola is the best as far as im concerned. its simple like the ones in "little india" but has better service nicer atmosphere and is less crowded. Also not as cheap as the ones downtown. For more "haute" indian try Ada on the same street. very nice ambiance but pricier and not a real traditional Indian. been there
